Inside See It Thru's Writers' Room

Tim SlaterMarch 5, 20257 min

A look at how we develop scripted series at OutGate — character first, region second, plot last.

See It Thru began as a question: what does it cost to keep a promise in a place that doesn't reward you for keeping it?

The room works in a specific order. Character first — a real interior life, a real contradiction. Then region — the streets, the institutions, the specific addresses these characters move through. Then plot — and only then.

The order matters because if you let plot lead, you end up with characters who exist to serve the next beat. That's how you get the version of West Coast stories that has been on screen for decades. We're not making that version.

We'll share more about the development process as the project moves toward production. For now: the slate is real, the writing is on, and the room is the most disciplined we've ever run.
